I Heart {Cheap} TOMS

UPDATE: Be sure to read the comments before purchasing or hosting a Tom’s party!

For all you locals:

Yesterday evening I was invited to a TOMS shoe party.

Yes, I said TOMS shoes.

No, I didn’t know there were house parties for TOMS either.

I have bought knock-off TOMS before for around $20, but have never tried the real deal.

These were priced at $25 for discontinued adult sizes and all kids shoes, and $35 for everything else.

Are they real TOMS?

Yes. At least I think so.

Where did they come from?

The back of a truck possibly? I have no idea. The salesperson seemed nice and legitimate, and that is more than enough for me.

Are they comfortable?

Um, they are TOMS. Does it matter? Okay yes, they are comfy.

Will you buy some and ship them to me?

No, but I still love you.

How many pairs did you buy?

I cannot answer that as Mr. Wright religiously checks my blog for any indication of overzealous shopping.

Do you know what overzealous means?

No, but it felt right.

Will you be hosting a party if I am not brave enough to make the call?

Nope, but I am trying to convince a local friend too. I will be sure and invite you if she does, because inviting the uninvited to parties is how I roll. :)

Happy TOMS shopping!

Hi, I was looking around on Google and I saw this. I am not sure where this woman lives or how it works but I needed to ask, if you don’t live in the area how do you get the shoes from the woman? Do you have to have a TOMS party, or can she just send the shoes? My email is maggie.crabill17@gmail.com So if you can help me figure this out, that would be great. Please email if you can help
    Thank you

  • My wife went to one of these parties put on at a ward member’s home tonight (same Elizabeth selling them). After seeing the shoes, my suspicion was aroused and, after some searching online, determined the shoes to be fake. Really sad that this happens so often in this valley. The shoes are lower quality than real Toms and apparently aren’t as comfortable. The insole on one of the shoes even said, “Qne for Qne” instead of “One for One.”

This site really made it apparent: http://howtospotfaketoms.blogspot.com/

  • Hi. I came across your blog looking into these parties. I just contacted TOMS and they said these are not their parties. Sorry to say they are fake. Go pay five dollars more for heaven sakes and actually give a needy kid a pair of shoes.

They are fake and how can we get this woman shut down…makes me so irritated at the dishonestly of some people and how they prey on families. Isn’t this against the law?

I just went to one of these parties last weekend, and bought a pair, my first pair of “Toms” so I don’t know how to tell if they are legitimate or not. I wanted to host a party, but I was a little hesitant, because I didnt know if they were knock offs or not (which I would buy knock offs, if they were advertised as such, but I didn’t want to do anything illegal). So I googled it and came across your site. I also went over the blog that the other commenters said, and I dont see anything “off” on the pair that I bought. They seem to be ok from her pictures and things she said on the other site. I just wanted to know if you researched any further. I did book a party (1 1/2 months away), so I just asked elizabeth why these were so cheap, she said they are the shoes that have some defects and can not be sold in stores, like the boxes are not in good shape, some of the shoes are sized wrong….but the boxes do not look like the “FAKE” ones shown on the other blog, they look like the real ones….what do you think? I know that if she is a scam that she is probably really good at lying, but I just wanted to know if you looked into it any further. Any insight you have would be great, I dont want to rip my friends off!

Hi Vinnie! So here is the scoop: They are totally fake Toms. They just happen to be made to look identical. From what I understand you can tell by the inserts. If they are removable and made from synthetic material, they are fake, If the are glued in and/or made from leather, they are real. Would I suggest hosting a party? Now that I know they are fake, I would not. The world is far too saturated with copyright infringement. Even though I think the “real” Toms are waaaaay overpriced, I still wouldn’t suggest buying knock-offs. My fake Tom’s I bought at the party I attended last year did not hold up well, and I no longer wear any of them. I have heard of real Toms falling appart easily too though. In the end I would find a store like Nordstrom Rack that sells real Toms discounted. Good luck!

  • Megan

you can tell by the tags on the sides of the shoes that they are fake. Real ones do not have writing on the side whereas these ones clearly do. Unfortunately you did get ripped off as they sell these for around 6 dollars in alot of markets and stands at malls

  • These are FAKE.

  • Fake or not I want to be invite to one of these parties!! I’ve been looking all over the place. When and where is the next party? Email me and let me know…jen.warkentine@yahoo.com
