Time for an update dudes.
I moved our china cabinet from the front living room to the family room. I never loved it in the front room, but it fit. I moved an antique dresser out of the living room into Lily’s room to make room for the change. Lily’s room is now Taylor’s room, but that’s another million billion posts to come my friends.
In order for the cabinet to work in the living room it needed to be brighter, hence the paint update.
Here’s the before:

During…one coat of Kilz primer, and my favorite Behr paint from Home Depot.
And after:
Much better and much brighter!
I installed a light inside while I was at it. It’s a simple white light from Ikea. I think it was around $10. I have it connected to a timer so it turns on every evening. I think I am now up to about a dozen lamps and lights on timers around here. For someone who is such an avid paper and plastic recycler, I seemed to have missed the boat when it comes to saving electricity.
Here’s the inside. I downsized a bit on my dishes. Hard to let go, but I like how it looks inside.
This oil painting on the shelf is by sculptor Ben Hammond’s wife. Two amazing artists in one family! Love it. I have an artist feature on Ben I am writing and should be posting soon. Seriously the nicest family ever. The torn book tutorial is HERE in case you missed it. The painting on top of the china cabinet is by the uber amazing Cristall Harper. That girl is seriously going places.
And for those of you who will come over and open the bottom cupboard just because you are dying to know what crap I stuffed inside, this picture is just for you. It’s full of serving trays and dishes I use for entertaining. I would love to store extra quilts in here, but I can’t part with my pewter. Hence the basket of throw blankets to the side.
Here’s how it now looks in the corner of the room:
Anywho, now I have a few other dozen pieces of furniture to move around. Once I start with one piece it starts a whole chain reaction around here. In fact, I am determined to move the mail sorter downstairs. It weights a freakin’ million pounds so yeah, that will be awesome.
Stay tuned!

Looks great! Did you just lightly sand to get some of the black to peek through? Your colored glass collection is lovely, too!

Hi Tina! Yup, I lightly sanded to give the piece a vintage feel. Thanks for looking!
