I realized I never posted pictures from our scout Blue and Gold Banquet.
I have no idea why it’s called a Blue and Gold Banquet.
I assumed we should decorate in Blue and Gold, but I I don’t really like Gold.
I don’t think I have work gold jewelry since 2001.
Okay, thats weird. True, but still weird.
Dallan bought me a gold necklace a few years ago. It was a gold chain with a gold heart charm.
Picture me puking.
Now Mr. Wright sticks with cash.
Man, I love that guy.
Anywho, Gold was out so when the cub master suggested an Angry Birds theme I thought brilliant! Everyone loves Angry Birds. And if you don’t know what Angry Birds is then you don’t know what an ipad is, and you have never heard of Etsy, and you don’t understand why Lady Gaga wears clothing made out of raw meat.
Forget that last one. Nobody get’s that.
So here’s what kept me up until the wee hours of the night the evening before the Blue and Gold:

My sister-in-law blew up all the balloons for me. It nearly killed her. The cub master spray painted and build the boxes below. The fumes nearly killed him. Moral of the story? Appreciate your leaders my friends. They are risking their lives to bring you ultimate boy scout entertainment.
If you aren’t familiar with the game here’s how it goes: Throw birds. Kill pigs. As you can see we went for the same concept.
The boys LOVED it. The balloon template is here. The coloring pages on the tables can be found here. Don’t be surprised if I do this whole theme for Matthew’s birthday next month and post about it again.

We too are going to do angry bird theme for our blue and gold! I would love more info (especially details about the game) since it is resourcefulness we thought we would have the boys make their own angry birds beforehand and come show them off-hoping to use them possibly for the game… In your game did you use darts or how did you attack the “pigs”? Thank you so much for sharing! We are all very excited to do this in our neck of the woods!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I will try and explain the game as best as I can. The majority of it was done by our amazing Cubmaster, but I think I can explain it well. What he did first was spray paint a bunch of cardboard boxes. Then he took push pins and used clear packaging tape to attach the pins to the boxes, sharp side out. The we blew up tons of green balloons and taped them above the pins, careful not to push them down on top. The tape protected them from popping. We used a red dodge ball as the red bird, and when the boys hit the balloons with the ball they would press against the pin and pop. I did draw pig faces on all the green balloons with a Sharpie marker, but you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to. Also, the boxes would for the most part stay in place because they were so big and heavy. When they did go crashing down we had several den leaders on hand to hurry and stack them back together. Anyway, let me know if you have more questions!

The Blue & Gold Banquet celebrates the anniversary or birthday of Cub Scouting. It is called that because those are the Cub Scout colors and each has a significant meaning. Now you know.
This is a fun idea and I may have to stash it away for future use. Thanks for sharing.
